Wondering how you can help the people of your community this year? Instead of putting all of the focus on the upcoming holidays, here are some ways you can give back.

Feed the Homeless:

There are hundreds of different locations you can go to in your area to volunteer your time. A good example would be to search online at Feeding America or any similar website and pledge to be a volunteer. From there you can find food banks and shelters near you.

Donate:

Each year, we stock up on food and snacks before having people over for just one event. While out shopping, make a habit of picking up some extra (non-perishable) items to donate. Some people even go as far as to decorate an entire holiday basket to give to a family.

Door Decorations:

If you know of a family in your neighborhood who is less-fortunate (and you think would welcome the support), decorate their door or front porch. A simple wreath or decorative leaves with a card would probably make all the difference to them.

Bake Treats:

While you are home, remember, there are first responders at the police and fire station still actively on duty. By baking pies, cookies, cakes, and other yummy holiday treats, you can help these men and women enjoy their day at work as well, until they are reunited with their families.

Giving Tuesday:

The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is Giving Tuesday. This is a day to volunteer your time with family, coworkers and friends to give back to your community. You can go online to learn There are many other ways to give back to your community. You can go online to learn more about the day and to receive updates and ideas in order to become an ambassador for the movement. To get an idea of what people have done, use hashtags on social media such as #GivingTuesday and #MyGivingStory.

There are many other ways to give back to your community. Just by turning on the TV you can listen to what is happening in your area and to find out different ways to help. Most importantly, let us be thankful for what we do have and put our focus into helping those who have less.
