As the dog days of summer draw to an end and kids get ready to return to school, there are some important safety facts you should know about when your child goes back to school according to the National Safety Council.
Whether your child walks, takes the bus, rides a bike or you drive them, here are some safety precautions.
• Practice the commute with your child. Make sure he or she knows how to get to and from school.
• If your child is walking to school, remind him or her to always walk on the sidewalk, if one is available.
• If your child rides a bike, make sure he or she wears a helmet and knows the rules of the road. For example: always ride on the right side of the road and abide by the same rules a car does. Always stop at a stop sign and always cross the street at a cross walk.
• If your child rides the bus, make sure the child always crosses the street in front of the bus at least 12 feet away. The driver should always be able to see the bus riders.
