In light of the holiday season, we have so much to be thankful for, including the end of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. This has been a rough year, not only for the state of Florida, but many others. Now it is the time to come together and think about how grateful we are for our family, friends, and loved ones.

Hurricane Matthew was the first Category 5 hurricane since Hurricane Felix in 2007. This storm season we endured 14 total storms, of which 6 were hurricanes (3 greater than category 3). Devastatingly, we had 1,739 fatalities and more than $11.13B in damages. After 11 years of enduring only false alarms and no hurricane landfalls in our state, it may have been difficult to take the threat of Matthew seriously. From this experience, we know it is never too early to start preparing for next year and try to take every hurricane warning seriously.

The Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1st, 2017. At this moment, we cannot predict what will happen next year, but we can make sure we are ready for anything which may come our way. Florida Peninsula has some great tips, along with a checklist for storm preparations.
