In June of 2015, The Florida Association of Insurance Agents (FAIA), in cooperation with the Florida Department of Financial Services, celebrated the passage of House Bill 1133, the insurance workforce development law. In hopes of drawing young people to the aging insurance field, this bill pursues college-to-career readiness by aligning college coursework with the current Florida pre-licensing requirements. If students complete the designated coursework at an approved Florida college and obtain the degree, they will receive either a general lines, customer service representative, or personal lines license

FAIA admits the insurance industry is "late to the game" for offering this industry related program to college students. Since the law passed last year, eight colleges around the state of Florida have already implemented or will begin to offer a two-year associates degree in risk management/insurance. These eight colleges include Tallahassee Community College, Santa Fe College, State College of Florida, Polk State College, Broward College, Seminole State College of Florida, St. Pete College, and St. Johns River State College. Jeff Grady, the CEO of the FAIA, predicts the program will expand to 11 colleges by 2017.

Insurance Journal explains the insurance industry was "one of the highest industries in terms of need for qualified professionals." Many experts believe this shortage arrived due to the lack of millennials' understanding of the insurance industry, or simply lack of knowing what career options are available to them. Grady believes the workforce development program could see more than 500 students enrolled in the near future, potentially leading to a whole new generation of employees.
