Today is National Banana Split Day! This decadent dessert was invented by David Evans Stricklerm, a 23-year-old apprentice pharmacist from Pennsylvania, in 1904. The first one sold, cost 10 cents, double the cost of all other sundaes!
The classic banana split is served in a long dish, by slicing a banana in half lengthwise, adding scoops of vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate ice cream, topped with chocolate, strawberry and pineapple sauces, whipped cream, nuts, and a maraschino cherry on top.
To celebrate National Banana Split Day, set up a make-your-own banana split buffet. Don’t forget to post on social media using the hashtag #SummerFloridaPeninsulaStyle and #NationalBananaSplitDay. Visit our Pinterest board for mouthwatering recipies.
