Are My Personal Possessions Covered?

Over the years we accumulate lots of personal belongings. These belongings can include furniture, clothing, sports equipment, and jewelry.  Your personal possessions are likely to be worth more than you may think, and should they become lost, stolen, or damaged, you will want to make sure you have enough coverage to help replace them. This coverage is known as Coverage C.   Before you experience a loss to your personal property, it is highly recommended to create a home inventory of your personal belongings in the event you should need to file a claim. The Washington Post reports only 44% of homeowners have taken the time to create an inventory of their belongings. Although creating an inventory of all your belongings can seem like quite a daunting task, it can be quite simple. Start by listing your items, their estimated value, and their make and model numbers if applicable. Update your inventory annually to add or remove items as necessary.   Should you have items of hig ...

Spring is here, which means it is time for a good spring clean.  For many, spring cleaning can be quite a dreadful task. However, it is worth doing to keep your home and family safe, clean, healthy, and organized. Here are some tips to make your spring clean a breeze.      De-Clutter: Now is the time to go through the cupboards, pantry, drawers, and cabinets in your home to clear out any expired or unwanted items. It is easy for old or expired items to go unnoticed, so take the time to sort through your belongings and re-organize.   Tackle the refrigerator: This means the inside and the outside. The best thing to do is to remove all items in your refrigerator, along with the drawers and shelves to deep clean everything individually. Before putting the items back in, clean the surfaces which cannot be removed with a sponge.   Clean the windows: Windows are one of the many areas in your home which go unnoticed year-round. Clea ...

Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy your family, friends, and a delicious feast. To ensure a fulfilling and safe thanksgiving for you and your guests, we would like to remind you of these cooking safety tips:   Never leave the kitchen unattended when you are cooking, and always keep an eye on your food. Daylight Saving Time Ends November 4th

The clocks will turn back at 2 a.m. on November 4th, to mark the end of Daylight Saving Time. Aside from the extra hour of sleep, here are a few things you should remember about Daylight Saving Time: Although most of our smartphones will automatically adjust, remember to manually turn back the clocks in your home including those found on stoves, microwaves and other appliances, as most of them won't reset themselves. It will begin to get dark an hour earlier in the evenings. If you have any outside lights on a timer, do not forget to reprogram them to adjust to the new time. Daylight Saving Time also serves as a great opportunity to test the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home and change their batteries if necessary. Standard time will be used through March 10th, 2019, then the clocks will "spring" forward one hour for the start Daylight Saving Time.     Thank you for visiting our blog. Florida Peninsula Insur ...

Fire Prevention Week 2018

October 7-13, 2018 is National Fire Prevention Week. These fires caused $6.7 billion in damages and resulted in 12,300 injuries and 2,510 deaths. The theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “LOOK. LISTEN. LEARN. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere. ™” This campaign aims to educate on the three essential steps to take to prevent fires, and how to safely escape in the event of a fire. “LOOK”: Identify the places a fire could start around your home. “LISTEN”: Ensure you are able to hear a smoke alarm ringing from all areas of your home, as you may only have minutes to escape once your fire alarm goes off. “LEARN”: Know your emergency escape plan and ...
