Investigators Help in Jacksonville Insurance Fraud Arrest

Florida Peninsula Insurance Company has made another arrest with the help of FPI’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU). The fraudulent claim was made in April 2012, when a Jacksonville homeowner applied for insurance coverage with Florida Peninsula. In his original application, the homeowner falsified the home’s loss history, which resulted in a lower premium.

After a local roofer was ordered to inspect the homeowner’s roof, the man filed a claim for roof damages, alleging a wind and hailstorm had damaged his roof, causing interior leaks.

An inspection was performed by a Florida Peninsula adjuster, who in turn referred the SIU team to the case. They discovered the damages were actually old, unreported damages. When questioned, the homeowner confessed to providing false information in an attempt to obtain benefits under the Florida Peninsula policy. The homeowner was arrested and charged with insurance fraud.
